Lino Print Weekend Workshop
Relief Lino Printing Weekend 15th -16th June 2024
Throughout the weekend we will explore different methods of printmaking without a press to create a base knowledge to develop and use in your art practice. By trying each method in a hands-on, practical session you will have a broad technical overview to start your printmaking journey.
What will we cover?
During the course, you will experiment with basic stamp cutting, multi-block compositions, and jigsaw prints. We will look at design transfer, cutting techniques, ink preparation and mixing, and print registration. You will learn the basics of each process and will be given the freedom to try new ways to create your own artwork. You will be given guidance and support through each process to further your artistic ability. You will be encouraged to develop your ideas and produce a portfolio of prints.
Do I need any particular skills?
This course is suitable for complete beginners and perfect for anyone who would like to gain an insight into essential printmaking techniques. Basic drawing skills are an advantage.
Please bring sketches, photographs or other visual resources as a starting point for the first session, each student will create prints using their own ideas and will create a unique portfolio.
10 am - 4 pm each day with lunch break.

In a relaxed, informative environment using clay as an artistic medium, students will learn a handbuildingtechniqueeachdayaswellastheverybasicsinwheelthrowing. Therewillbean
opportunity to explore these techniques further by playing and experimenting to encourage you to create work through your own ideas and visions. Part of the day will be spent outdoors finding inspiration in the beautiful surroundings for surface decoration, which will be applied directly onto your clay pieces, and/or via documentation in a sketchbook if you prefer.
This is the perfect course for those with little to no experience in handbuilding and throwing. Please bring your own sketchbook and drawing materials if you wish to develop particular ideas within the outline of the programme. Drawing skills are not required for this course.
Clay, materials and firing costs are included.

A unique opportunity to refresh your skills or develop them further in an intensive ceramics summer school.
Interpreting Form with Texture and Line with ceramic artist Sarah Rychtarova Mon 26th Aug - Fri 30th Aug 2024
This is an informal, flexible week allowing students to build on current skills at their own pace. With the guidance of the tutor, you will be supported in attaining your visions and ideas through further techniques and explorations. Some time will be spent outdoors collating inspiration for your projects through form and surface texture. You will learn how to use oxides in various techniques for surface decoration.
This is an ideal course for those who have completed the Intro to Ceramics Summer School or have some knowledge of working with clay. Please bring your own sketchbook and drawing materials if you wish to develop particular ideas within the outline of the programme. Drawing skills are not required for this course.

Tea and Talk
Tuesday 10th October 12 noon - 2 pm
On the 10th of October it’s World Mental Health Day and the @mentalhealthfoundation host and inspire “Tea and Talk” events across the Uk.
We will have the kettle on that day , if you would like to pop in and have a cup and a chat we will be there .
Tea from 12-2pm after Garden Club which is on in the morning 10am 12noon ( where there will also be tea and some fresh air and gentle exercises and stretches ! Oh and Daffodil bulbs!…) message us here if you would like to come along to that too!
If course We are an art Center , maybe we could have a chat about some of the books we have in our collection, plans for the seasons ahead , or the weather or where ever the conversation leads
… or what about some paper and pencils to draw our cups and tea pot still life …

Chain Mail Earring Making Workshop
Let us introduce you to the complex, thrilling and rewarding world of chainmail making! In this session, you will have the opportunity to try your hand at a complex but striking chainmail pattern and flourish.

Intro to Mitsuro Wax Jewellery Making
Mitsuro Wax, or to give it its full name, Mitsuro Hikime, is an ancient Japanese wax making technique that creates a truly unique type of wax. This hand-made wax creates beautiful ridges and wrinkles that mimic natural form. During the course of this Taster Session, you will learn how to make Mitsuro wax from scratch and then how to work it to create some beautiful items of jewellery.
While you may not be able to take home a finished piece of jewellery that very day, don’t worry, you will have a finished piece to show for it as we will cast your piece and send it to you as soon as it is ready!
The aim of this class is to:
● introduce you to this incredible material
● allow you the time to experiment with it
● give you all the resources and information you need to recreate this process
● have FUN!

Wax Carve a Silver Ring Workshop
Wax carving is a technique used by jewellers to mould, carve and craft pieces of jewellery in a material that is cheap, easily shaped and forgiving. Wax allows makers to be creative and test ideas before committing to metal.
In this unique class, we will show you the techniques on how to carve jeweller’s wax into a ring. The wax will then be sent off to cast in silver using the lost wax casting process. We will then finish the ring in our workshop and post them back to the hands that carved them!

Creative Summer School for 8-12 year olds
Experienced creative facilitator and teacher Rona Lawson will spend a week at An Talla Solais delivering our morning Summer School. Each session is from 11am - 12.30pm, and will feature a different daily creative activity.
Aimed at children aged between 8-12 years old, all materials will be provided in a safe and fun environment.
You can book individual sessions for £12 each, or the whole week for £60.

Volunteer’s Day
To mark Volunteer Week Scotland we are hosting an event where you can find out more about volunteering opportunities at An Talla Solais. We will also be thanking all of our valued and important volunteers past and present with an afternoon tea.
