EMBROIDERY AND FOUND OBJECTS COLLAGE WORKSHOP

One day Hand and machine embroidery, bondaweb, found objects collage workshop

Saturday Workshop with Kim McCormack
10 am - 4 pm
£120

This Workshop is an introduction to creating a fine art piece of collaged embroidery.
We will create some small 10cm square samples and then continue to explore composition, applique with bondaweb, layering and fabric collage to create a single piece around 35-40 cm square.

Landscape imagery would be a good subject to work fro this workshop, alternatively participants may choose to work with alternative subject matter. A photo or drawings as a visual reference to work from would be a good starting point for participants to bring.

Schedule

10am -Demo and discussion on the different ways that bondaweb can be manipulated, contrasting surfaces and overlaying. Piece can be constructed as more of a long thin rectangular hanging or more of a standard landscape dimention piece, etc. examples of work will be there to observe.

10.30 to 11am, individual sampling of smaller fabrics with some initial stitch and overlay suggestions

11.30ish – Teabreak

12am -1pm – further sampling and mark making with bondaweb. Applying of contrasting fabrics. Upworking samples – optional fold out booklet of samples.

1-2pm – lunchbreak

2-4pm – construction of final work with positioning and layering. Option to add in found objects such as driftwood, rusty parts, etc. focus on composition and layer building. Hand and machine embroidery building. Exploring various techniques such as couching and fraying.

Some works will be completed, however the hope is that participants will have a started and worked piece which can be taken home and worked independently with a more intricate building of embroidered layers. I want the participants to feel that they have their own personal touch to the work and are confident with their own direction with the process.

All materials provided. Please bring your own sewing machine if you have one and would like to use your own machine.
One hour Lunch break. Bring packed lunch with you , or make use of the various cafes/ shops in Ullapool

"I am a visual artist, working and living near in the North East of the Highlands. Mainly working with water based paint and drawing materials, creating abstracted figurative and biomorphic works using symbols, motifs, colours, and patterns from everyday life, the landscape that I am immersed in and moments from the past. Focusing on the surface of our environment, how it holds the past, present and future simultaneously and thinking about what our place is within this space."
