Seaweed Pressing/Collage Workshop

Seaweed pressing

This is a free workshop on seaweed pressing and collage. Inspired by the victorian craft of seaweed pressing, entangled with the realities of today-we will look to encorporate a variety of beach finds, from seaspagetti to old fishing nets, dulse to plastic wrap. Whilst intentionally arranging both man made material and 'the flowers of the sea', as once put by ecologist and seaweed collector, Margaret Gatty, we will compose and document our beach finds onto pages. Which I will scan, and you are free to take home, as a living archive of our shores.

We will start our workshop with a quick venture down to the beach to gather material and inspiration, so please dress appropriately! And if possible bring along some of you own beach finds.

To find out more about the project Na Mara, please visit @Na_Mara__ on instagram or visit the eco art page https://ecoartcharity.org/commissions-2024/ to read about the commission.

All ages welcome, no experience needed!
