Join us and Ullapool Dance to learn and perform the NELKEN*-Line by choreographer Pina Bausch, accompanied by Louis Armstrong and His Hot Five. Groups around the world are learning the dance and filming it in their own contexts to add to the Line so that 'many new versions will spring up... as numerous, colourful and different as humanity itself.'
Alice Wilkins of Ullapool Dance will lead the workshops in the ATS Gallery in recognition of the cross-artform emphasis of our current show Lomax Lomax. Sessions will be:
Intro and first workshop: Monday 16th April from 6.30-7.30pm. Come and see what it's about, bring your friends and try the dance. No experience necessary! We'd love a mix of ages and abilities (though you should be over the age of 12, and every child should be accompanied by a dancing adult).
Rehearsals: 6-7pm on Monday 30th April, Monday 7th May and Monday 14th May.
Performance for filming: Thursday 17th May (probably 6pm but to be confirmed).
More info on the NELKEN-Line is here. *Nelken means carnation; in the dance's original form the stage was covered with pink carnations.
This is a free event thanks to support from the Paul Hamlyn Foundation and Ullapool Dance. Please come along on Monday 16th April for our first rehearsal and join the Line! (Please note that if numbers on 16th are too few we might decide not to go ahead with this project. Help us make it happen!)
