My tapestry weaving has evolved from a lifelong love of fabrics, design and a recycling habit born of a Second World War childhood. A weaving may contain Scottish tweeds, blankets, suiting, ends of knitting wool, felted woollens and even scraps of fur. The fabrics are cut into strips and woven onto a cotton warp. The weavings are done on a double warp which means that the ends of the fabric strips are very firmly fixed and the weavings can make excellent reversible rugs.
I weave Scottish landscapes and abstract works. My inspiration comes from the scenery around our home, and travelling with my Australian husband which introduced me to a wealth of Asian and Australian Aboriginal designs. My work has been exhibited in many joint exhibitions and I have had two successful solo exhibitions in the Highlands. I have also undertaken many commissions for both rugs and wall hangings. When I experimented with weaving in the round, one of my "Roly Cushions" was chosen for the permanent collection of the Aberdeen City Art Gallery.
