"My work is the product of a desire to celebrate the intrinsic beauty of
everyday rituals and work-a-day materials.
I find that combining an eclectic mix of recycled and natural materials, each with their own
history and patina, gives fresh life to each
of the works I produce, whilst maintaining a resonance with the past. The resulting work is
usually intense in colour, organic in form and
often involves the use of lyrical text. My intention, by crossing the boundaries of media such
as ceramic collage, embroidery and poetry is to create a complete expression of the relationship I find,
both ordinary and spiritual, between the human experience and the natural world upon which we all depend."
Since Jan Kilpatrick began making mosaic for exhibition and to commission,
her work has gradually encompassed an ever-widening range of skills and forms
of creative expression, taking her far beyond the original scope of "Wild Tiles".
Whilst she treasures opportunities to make work exploring her own vision,
crossing boundaries between ceramics, textiles and other media, she spends much of her
energy encouraging others, through workshops and courses, to see beyond self-imposed
limitations and to find their own means of creative expression. By following this link
to her web site web site you will find examples of Jan's own work (some of which is for
sale), see the results of collaborations with community groups and also view this coming
year's calendar of courses: you too can find the creative force within you and let it flow free!
